Pistons Even Series, 2-2
Detroit Pistons' Chauncey Billups, right, goes up for two points against San Antonio Spurs' Manu Ginobili during the fourth quarter of Game 4 of the NBA Finals in Auburn Hills, Mich. The Pistons defeated the Spurs, 102-71, to tie the best of seven series, 2-2.

NBA Headlines
The Spurs need to take care of the ball and box out. Most of all, they need Manu Ginobili to bounce back.
If you've thought the NBA Finals were a bit of a snooze so far, Chauncey Billups says it's time to wake up. After three fairly tepid games of stout defense, inept offense and good behavior, there are big stakes for Game 4 on Thursday night....
Manu Ginobili left Game 3 of the NBA Finals covered in bruises, from his leg to his pride. Luckily for the San Antonio Spurs, the Argentine star says he has always been a quick healer.
One of Phil Jackson's first observations upon returning to the Los Angeles Lakers was he'd be ``most amazed'' if they were in position to contend for a championship during the life of his three-year contract.
Richard Hamilton's clear, plastic mask has become his trademark, as distinct as his ability to curl around screens and make mid-range jumpers. Detroit's shooting guard considers the device protecting his nose that has been broken three times just like his shoes and shorts.
There won't be a lockout in the NBA this summer if there are only three issues left for owners and players to resolve, union director Billy Hunter said. The problem, however, is that the opposing sides do not even agree on how many items are.
Operating without a full-time general manager, the Cleveland Cavaliers decided Wednesday not to pick up the option on backup center Robert Traylor's $1.76 million contract for next season. Traylor averaged 5.5 points and career-high 4.5 rebounds.

Pistons 96, Spurs 79
Playing with a level of energy that was nowhere to be found in the first two games, Ben Wallace and Richard Hamilton led the way as the Pistons thoroughly outplayed the San Antonio Spurs in the second half and won 96-79 Tuesday night in Game 3.
Television ratings have been down and interest has been low, but that might start to change now that the Pistons have made things much more competitive and a little more compelling.
No longer is there a chance for a sweep, and never again will anyone question whether the Pistons can even play with the likes of Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan and Co.
Ginobili got hurt in the game's first 30 seconds was reduced to a non-factor for the first time in the series, and Duncan could not match the energy or enthusiasm generated by Wallace, the Pistons' Defensive Player of the year. Wallace's dunk with 4:27 left gave Detroit its largest lead, 88-73, and the Pistons held on easily from there.
Now, the Pistons will look to even the series at 2-2 in Game 4 on Thursday night and to ensure that the series will be heading back to Texas.
Hamilton scored 24 points, including 10 in the third quarter when Detroit took the lead for good, and Chauncey Billups added 20 . But although the Pistons got most of their points from their backcourt tandem once again, they were anything but a two-man team.

Jackson Back To Lakers
Laker assistant general manager Jim Buss told Jackson earlier this week that the Lakers wanted him to return, effectively turning a two-way street — Jackson needed to warm up to the Lakers and the Lakers needed to warm up to him — into a one-way avenue.
If Jackson agrees to return, negotiations would not be difficult, team vice president and minority owner Magic Johnson said last week. Jerry Buss said last month he was willing to pay relatively close to $10 million annually for a coach.
Appearing in a TV interview Thursday before Game 1 of the NBA Finals, Jackson told ABC his decision whether to coach next season would come soon, saying it was time to get "off the queue here in another day or two."
